2006 Candidates

In 2006, Multnomah County had no money in their general fund budget for the Regional Arts and Cultural Council (the City of Portland had about $3.9 million). Clackamas County did not have a 'Percent for Art' funding program.

In Multnomah County, there was an open County Commissioner seat. The candidates running to fill it were Jeff Cogen and Lew Frederick. Their race was a non-partisan election.

In Clackamas County, two-term County Commissioner incumbent Larry Sowa (R) was being challenged by Lake Oswego City Councilor Lynn Peterson (D). The candidates ran in a partisan election.

Each candidate responded to a written questionnaire which we welcome you to read. As a follow up, two groups of volunteers held interview sessions with each candidate to ask additional tough questions. The Multnomah County candidates were interviewed at the Pulliam Deffenbaugh Gallery on August 18, 2006. The Clackamas County candidates were interviewed at the Oswego Lake Gallery on August 22, 2006.

The interviewers evaluated each candidate and rated them accordingly. See the interview questions and the scores. The scores were tallied resulting in Jeff Cogen and Lynn Peterson becoming the first candidates to be endorsed by Oregon ArtPAC.

We are happy to report that both of our candidates were elected to office!
